‘I don’t know’: Van Bronckhorst shares ‘hope’ for £12k-a-week Rangers ace

Giovanni van Bronckhorst expects Rangers will find out in the coming days how long Ryan Jack will miss after sitting out Thursday’s draw with Lyon, via quotes by the Glasgow Times.

Jack was likely to make a long-awaited start during the Europa League tie at the Groupama Stadium. The midfielder had been training with the Gers squad over the last few weeks and came through a substitute outing in Saturday’s Premiership win over Dundee unscathed.

The 29-year-old had only played 40-minutes all season before facing the Dee last weekend. He made his return from injury against Ross County and faced Hibernian in the League Cup semi-final. But Van Bronckhorst had since opted to allow Jack additional time to recover.

However, Jack suffered a setback in his recovery from injury during the week leading up to Rangers’ trip to Lyon. The £12k-a-week star now faces another spell on the sidelines, almost 10-months on from his last start under Steven Gerrard.

“I don’t know,” Van Bronckhorst said. “We will have to wait and see. He’s getting the diagnosis in the next few days. We have to wait and I can’t say anything about his injury yet, but I hope we will be able to do so.”

Jack made his last start as Rangers beat Dundee United on February 21 when forced off in just the 27th-minute. He tried to continue during the Ibrox affair, to Gerrard’s frustration, having sustained a calf issue after the opening 10-minutes.

His return against Ross County and outing against Hibs either side of the international break offered hope for his fitness. But Van Bronckhorst now faces a wait to unleash Jack fully in his Rangers plans after the midfielder’s injury setback.

The Dutchman will desperately want to see what made the £7.5m man so important under Gerrard. Despite his season ending in February, Jack struck two goals in 19 league games last term. He also fired home four and provided three assists in 19 games during 2018/19.
