Sevilla president Jose Castro has admitted to Marca that he is unsure what the future holds for star defender Diego Carlos, with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal allegedly expressing an interest in recent months.

In case you had forgotten why Monchi is one of the most respected transfer market operators in the game today, here is another example.

Just last summer, Sevilla paid £13 million to bring Carlos to the Estadio Jose Alvalade after a fine season at Nantes.

12 months later, with some of the Premier League’s biggest and best flocking to Andalusia, Goal reports that the Brazilian battler is now valued at closer to £70 million.

Sevilla look set to make another huge profit on a key playerr, then, with Goal adding that two as-yet unnamed English clubs have lodged bids for the late-blooming 27-year-old.

“I do not know what is going to happen in the market,” Castro says when asked about whether Carlos will leave after a single season in Spain.

“It seems that it will be a rare, atypical (market).”

It seems that Castro is uncertain about whether even the likes of Manchester City or Liverpool would be willing to meet Sevilla’s rather hefty asking price for Carlos, during such an uncertain situation for clubs of all sizes and bank balances.

The Telegraph reported last month that Jose Mourinho has identified the commanding Carlos as the perfect addition to his error-prone Tottenham back line. Yet a £70 million price-tag is a huge issue with chairman Daniel Levy under pressure to pay off that space-age new stadium and deal with the continued financial fall-out following the global-health crisis.

El Desmarque suggested in May that Arsenal are big fans of Carlos too.

But the Gunners, like their North London rivals, are hardly flush with cash at present.
