Micah Richards said on Sky Sports Premier League (6:41pm, November 8, 2020) that he cannot explain the controversial penalty incident involving Liverpool central defender Joe Gomez against Manchester City on Sunday evening.
The former City defender, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, does not think that Gomez could have done anything regarding the delivery from midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
The Reds played out a 1-1 draw with City away from home in the Premier League.
In the 41st minute, Gomez was adjudged to have handled De Bruyne’s cross inside the area, although it was clearly unintentional. The City midfielder took the spot kick and missed.
Richards said on Sky Sports Premier League (6:41pm, November 8, 2020): “Gomez as well today, I don’t know how he is supposed to defend that. Is he supposed to put his arms behind his back? Then you are off-balance when you are trying to defend.”
