Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been paying tribute to Arsenal team-mate Mohamed Elneny who he claims has been simply ‘unbelievable’ this season.
Elneny is arguably the surprise package in the Gunners’ squad this season.
The Egypt international returned to North London this past summer after being loaned out to Besiktas by Unai Emery.
And quite honestly, there weren’t many Arsenal fans who wanted to see Mikel Arteta use the 28-year-old, who cost £7 million back in 2016.
But fast forward a few months and Elneny is a key player under Arteta, having starred in the 1-0 win away to Manchester United last weekend.
The former Basel midfielder clocked 90 minutes for the Gunners at Old Trafford but still had enough left in the tank to embark on full-blooded sprints toward the end of the game.
And the Gabon international just couldn’t say enough good things about his Arsenal team-mate – including his tireless workrate.
He said to the club’s official website: “He came back with that experience and that’s really important too. How he’s been playing since he came back is just unbelievable. His sprint at the end of the game… I don’t know how he did that! That is the energy he has, that’s what we want as a team and everyone here really wants to play that way. “
Elneny really is the anti-Ozil in terms of hunger and application.
He is nowhere near as gifted as the former Germany international, but behind the scenes he is clearly impressing Arteta at London Colney and if Ozil had the same work ethic in training then who knows, perhaps things could’ve panned out differently for the playmaker.
