Jurgen Klopp has been singing the praises of Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher after his heroics at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Liverpool progressed into the semi-final of the Carabao Cup with a victory over Leicester City.
The Reds had to seal their passage into the last four via a penalty shootout, but the young Irish goalkeeper saved two of the Foxes’ five spot kicks.
Although he isn’t close to Alisson, Kelleher is ahead of second-choice Liverpool keeper Adrian by a mile it would seem.
And Klopp has labelled the player ‘outstanding’, adding that he doesn’t even want to refer to him as a ‘talent’ any longer.
He told the club’s official website: “He is an outstanding goalkeeper,
“I don’t want to say anymore he’s a ‘talent’. For goalies maybe it’s possible because they are talents a bit longer because they can play longer. But he is an outstanding goalie.”
Major ceiling
The Cork-born goalkeeper burst on to the scene with some cracking Champions League performances last season.
However, Kelleher is clearly improving all the time and, at 23, his ceiling is enormous.
For context, Alisson, who is massive for Liverpool and one of Europe’s finest goalkeepers, didn’t even leave Brazil until he was Kelleher’s current age.
The Brazilian has blossomed into one hell of a stopper and whisper it, but the Irishman could follow suit.
