Chris Sutton has told BBC 606’s podcast that he doesn’t understand the recent ‘myth’ comments and stinging criticism which have been aimed at Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor was pretty scathing of Leeds prior to their 3-0 win at Villa Park on Friday night.

In one Twitter message, he stated that the newly-promoted side are a ‘myth’ and seemingly questioned the amount of praise Bielsa gets.

But Sutton defended Bielsa and praised him for how he has transformed the Yorkshire giants during his time at Elland Road.

“I don’t get this,” Sutton told BBC 606. “Based on what we have seen from Leeds over the last couple of seasons.

“Yes, I knew they blew up the season before last, but they come and attack teams. They play the right way and they are brilliant to watch.

“I was at Elland Road on Monday night against Wolves, they ran out of steam a little bit but what a great response against Aston Villa, who everybody was crowing about.”

Leeds’ official Twitter account were pretty quick to aim a dig at Agbonlahor once their side beat Villa on Friday. And he responded on talkSPORT by asking the club why they are so ‘rattled’ by his previous comments.

Either way, it is an egg on the face moment for Agbonlahor because days after his criticism, he has to watch Patrick Bamford run riot by scoring a hat-trick.

One thing is for sure, considering where Villa and Leeds were – sitting mid-table in the Championship – when their respective managers took charge, it has been a seriously good job from both and it will be interesting to see how things pan out as the season progresses.
