Newcastle United are yet to make a signing in the January transfer window.

Newcastle have been linked with a host of players so far this month, but are yet to complete a deal for anyone.
Rafael Benitez has made no secret of his desire for quality, but he has not been backed with funds by Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.

And Merson claims that he would not be at all shocked if Newcastle went the whole month without making a new addition.
“It wouldn’t shock me at all. Not one bit [if they didn’t buy anyone],” Merson said. “I don’t get it. You’re talking a big football club, 52,000 every week, and they can’t buy anybody!”
If Newcastle do fail to bring in any new players over the coming weeks, then things will look very bleak for Benitez’s side.

Newcastle clearly lack the requisite quality to compete at the top level, and look to be in a relegation fight.
The Magpies could only manage to pick up a 1-1 draw with Swansea City yesterday, with a second half goal from Joselu rescuing them from defeat.
Newcastle are currently in 14th place in the Premier League table, just three points above the drop zone.
