Mark Lawrenson has questioned on BBC One’s Football Focus as to ‘what has happened’ to Tottenham forward Gareth Bale.
The BBC pundit suggested that Bale doesn’t want to be at Tottenham by highlighting that when he was at Real Madrid, he wanted to go to China.
Whilst many expected Bale to take his time in re-announcing himself on the Premier League stage, there has hardly been a whisper from the left-footed speedster since he swapped the Bernabeu for North London.
Lawrenson shared that he has been left perplexed by Bale’s situation at Tottenham.
“What’s happened to Gareth Bale,” asked Lawrenson. “What’s happened to him?
“My theory would be that did he not want to go and play in China? What does that tell you?
“Why do you go to China,” Lawrenson asked presenter Dan Walker, who responded by saying ‘for money’.
“Lawrenson then added: Absolutely. I thought you said Firmino, for a minute. I mean that tells you everything you need to know. Why would you want to play in China when you are in Madrid?
“If not, just go and play somewhere else and has it been another year since then? I don’t get it. Great player but I just don’t know where he is at.”
Harry Kane’s injury has opened the door for Bale to walk through and ensure the England captain isn’t missed during these coming weeks.
But a number of questions have to be asked from whether Jose Mourinho will provide him with the minutes and if he can have an impact.
In truth, in order for Bale’s engine to well and truly warm-up, Mourinho needs to allow him to spend as much time on the pitch because sitting on the bench, he’s just like an expensive car in rush hour traffic… going nowhere.
