Speaking to Inch by Inch, Ivan Toney has been discussing Virgil van Dijk.

The Brentford, and now England, striker was asked to name his ‘dream’ five-a-side team, and, of course, the attacker made space for van Dijk in his side.

However, while Toney named van Dijk as one of the best centre-backs around, he claimed that he doesn’t fear the Dutchman in the slightest, claiming that the ex-Southampton man looks too nice to be scary.

What’s been said?

Toney spoke about the Liverpool star.

“There’s no defenders in there. I’ll get van Dijk in there,” Toney said.

“Yeah, he’s the one where you talk about fearing him,” The host replied.

“Nah, I don’t fear him, he’s too nice, there’s scarier defenders that look scary as well, he doesn’t look scary, he looks too nice,” Toney concluded.

Not scary?

Ivan Toney must have nerves of steel if he doesn’t fear the prospect of facing off against van Dijk on a football pitch.

Not only is the 31-year-old one of the most talented footballers in the world, he’s also one of the most physically imposing, standing at 6ft 4 and being one of the strongest players in the entire Premier League, we can only imagine how frightening it must be to compete against van Dijk.

However, if you’re going to be a top-level striker, you can’t fear any opposition player, because once you have that sort of mindset, you’re already condemned to a poor performance.

Toney will get the chance to face off against van Dijk in January, and after his England call-up this week, there’s he could be returning heading into game off the back of a successful World Cup campaign with the Three Lions.
