Ian Wright says ‘I felt’ for Richarlison after his first goal for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League was cancelled out in a dramatic fashion against Liverpool on Sunday.

Tottenham were 3-0 down after 15 minutes and looking at the possibility of being on the end of another beating, with Wright adding that ‘I don’t care what anybody says’ but people will never understand the difficulty of playing at Anfield in front of Liverpool fans.

But, with ten minutes left on the clock, Richarlison was coming onto the pitch and looking to score his first league goal for Spurs.

To the shock of everyone inside Anfield, the former Everton man managed to get the smallest of touches on a Son Heung-min free-kick to score what he thought was an injury-time equaliser, only for Diogo Jota to cancel it out a minute later.

When Richarlison celebrated, the Spurs star did it in his own unique way, including taking his shirt off and doing his chicken dance.

Ian Wright loved a celebration or two when he was scoring goals during his playing days and he shared he would have done the same as Richarlison, as he told Premier League Productions (01/05/23 at 2:05 pm).

“Do you know the reason why I am laughing,” said Wright. “I kind of felt for him, but it’s the kind of thing I would have done.

“I would have been so all over myself. The chicken dance. Everything. Just teasing the Liverpool fans. Then, we saw what happened afterwards.

“I don’t care what anyone says. I don’t think other fans can understand what it’s like to be at Anfield in that kind of situation. What the Liverpool fans are like in that situation? They do something.”

RICHARLISON TO START VS PALACE?

Ryan Mason dropped the Brazil star back to the bench for the trip to Anfield, but if he wants to prove that he isn’t a flop, then Richarlison needs starts and performance.

Free-scoring Crystal Palace visit north London at the weekend and it would be a wise move from Tottenham’s stand-in coach to bring Richarlison back into the XI.
