Frank Leboeuf thinks Ilkay Gundogan has been talking about a possible transfer to the likes of Arsenal whilst winning the Treble with Manchester City.
The former World Cup winner was pointing out how Ilkay Gundogan was saying ‘Oh, I am focusing on the FA Cup final’, when in truth, he was discussing his future with his family, as he told ESPN.
The Manchester City midfielder is out-of-contract this month and he has a big call to make about his future, with Arsenal keen on his talents.
The 32-year-old has a number of offers on his table, stay in his current environment, move to the Emirates and re-unite with Mikel Arteta or start a new footballing chapter outside of England.
In truth, whatever he decides, it would make sense. On one hand, you stay at the Etihad and carry on dominating. Or you leave on the highest of highs after winning the Treble.
Either way, when players talk about ‘focusing’ on the next game, when there is transfer speculation around them, Lebeouf stated ‘I don’t buy’ that nonsense.
“What I don’t understand is nowadays we can hear the players saying, ‘oh, no, I am focusing on the FA Cup final, then I am going to focus on the Champions League,” said Leboeuf.
“I have been there. I don’t buy that. You have a family. You have kids. You have a wife. You talk about it because that’s very important for the family.
“I don’t buy it at all. The players listen. They can play in a Champions League final. The FA Cup final. They already know where they want to go, so they can say whatever they want to the press. But I don’t buy it.”

Arsenal trying to sign Rice… can they nab Gundogan?
The Germany international clearly isn’t Arsenal’s main target because they are throwing everything at West Ham United captain, Declan Rice.
Perhaps understandably so, they have been hit with the first stumbling block and that’s an opening bid of £80m plus add-ons being rejected by the Hammers, as reported by Sky Sports.
After missing out on the Premier League title in such a narrow manner, it’s going to be interesting to see just how far Arsenal push the boat out this summer and how much money they throw at all of this.
