It seems as though Aston Villa defender, Tyrone Mings, got the better of Leeds United midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, in England training on Saturday.
Ahead of the Three Lions taking on Romania in an international friendly today, Villa’s towering centre-back posted a clip on his Instagram story where he nutmegs the Leeds star during a Rondo session.
Added with the clip, Mings simply added the caption ‘sorry bro’, as he laughed and hugged his national teammate after nutmegging him.
Phillips responded to the Villa man’s actions on his own Instagram story by simply stating ‘I don’t believe it’.
Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if both players feature for England today in what is the final game before Euro 2020 kicks off for Gareth Southgate’s men.
Mings started at centre-half, alongside Conor Coady, as England beat Austria 1-0 in a friendly on Wednesday – Phillips was an unused substitute.
But it wouldn’t be a surprise if Leeds’ defensive rock is handed a start today, as Southgate rotates his 26-man squad ahead of that opener against Croatia.
Whether either player will be in that starting XI next week remains to be seen.
But on paper, it seems as though Declan Rice is ahead of the ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’, whilst Southgate may choose between either Mings or Coady to start that Euro 2020 opener because Harry Maguire is still recovering from an injury.
Either way, this is the first tournament both Mings and Phillips will be participating in, and given the injury worries to Maguire and Jordan Henderson, they may both feature a lot more than supporters think.
