Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports, during their Monday Night Football coverage, that he didn’t agree with Jordan Henderson’s comments after Liverpool’s game with Southampton.

Liverpool were beaten 1-0 by the Saints last night, but after the game Henderson claimed his side deserved something for their second-half display.

Liverpool were on the front foot for much of the second period, but could not break down a stubborn Southampton backline.

And Carragher thinks that Liverpool’s failure to create chances meant that they got exactly what they deserved.

“Henderson then mentioned he felt Liverpool should have got something out the game, but I don’t agree with that,” Carragher said.

“When you look at the stats you’d say Liverpool are much better than Southampton. But when a team score an early goal the onus is on the team who are behind to score a goal, so naturally a team drop off.

“The biggest thing is not having more possession, it’s what you do with the possession.

“I can’t think of a chance where I think ‘how’s he missed that’ or the keeper has made a great save.”

Southampton actually had reserve goalkeeper Fraser Forster in goal, but Liverpool did not test him nearly enough.

Forster had a relatively comfortable night between the sticks, with Jurgen Klopp’s side failing to breach Southampton’s defence on too many occasions.

Liverpool’s lack of attacking menace is now becoming a concern, as Klopp’s side have rarely looked the dangerous force they were last season this time around.

Liverpool still remain at the top of the Premier League table, but last night’s defeat has given the teams around them room for great optimism.
