The Tottenham Hotspur ace seemed to make the difference when he was introduced against Aston Villa.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters after his side’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa, and disagreed with a journalist’s suggestion that his team were less predictable after Christian Eriksen’s introduction, as quoted by Football.London.
The Dane has been heavily linked with and exit from Spurs this summer, and he was left on the bench for the first two thirds of the match against the Villans.
Eriksen’s contract with Tottenham expires in the summer of 2020, and with foreign transfer windows still open until the end of the month, he could very well be moved on over the course of the next three weeks.
Spurs fans will be desperate for him to stay in north London, however, especially after his showing on Saturday.
Pochettino responded when asked whether Eriksen’s introduction made his team less predictable, as quoted by Football.London:
“I don’t agree. I will agree that we were a little bit predictable on the first half, but we never found our best position to play and move the ball quickly. They were very compact. In the second half we played very well. Of course when Christian went on to the pitch he was more fresh and had more quality, of course he is a top player. He helped the team to win the game, I am so happy.”
Despite Pochettino’s words, he surely realises how important Eriksen is to Tottenham.
And even with the additions of Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon, losing the 27-year-old would undoubtedly be a huge blow for Spurs.
