Michael Owen has backed Sean Dyche’s Everton to survive relegation from the Premier League after their 5-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday.
The former Liverpool striker thinks ‘Everton will be alright now’ as they currently sit outside of the drop zone.
It was a dramatic Monday of Premier League football, with the Toffees putting five past Champions League-chasing Brighton, Leicester City conceding five to Fulham and Nottingham Forest beating bottom-of-the-table Southampton 4-3.
All in all, it puts those on Merseyside in control of their own destiny heading into the final few weeks of this drama-filled and stomach-turning relegation battle.
It could even be argued that they don’t need to win any more games and they are safe because those around them have some very tough fixtures.
That was touched upon by Michael Owen when he backed Everton to maintain their status in England’s top-flight for another year, as he told Premier League Productions (08/05/23 at 10:25 pm).
“I do think Everton could be alright now,” said Owen. “That home game against Bournemouth, they are safe.
“They will probably need to get something from Bournemouth at the end of the season to stay up and I think they will be delighted with that position.
“The next two games, for all the teams, I can hardly see any points. But the last game, for all them, are probably where the points are. It could be a grandstand finish.”
CAN EVERTON AVOID FINAL-DAY DRAMA?
You don’t want it to go to the final day of the season because that just creates drama and pressure of the highest order, even if it’s in your own hands.
Yes, they will be at home to a team that is already safe in Bournemouth, but that sometimes is even more of a risk.
So, can Dyche push his team towards one more win and the 35-point mark with Manchester City and Wolves up next?
