Alan Hutton has lavished praise on Everton new boy Donny van de Beek, following a loan from Manchester United.
The Dutch midfielder played 90 minutes this afternoon in helping Everton to an emphatic 3-0 victory over Leeds United at Goodison Park.
This was Van de Beek’s home debut for the Toffees and no doubt the supporters inside Goodison will have been very impressed by him.
According to WhoScored, the 24-year-old, who cost Manchester United £40 million in 2020, clocked a passing accuracy of 89 percent and managed four tackles – as many as any player on the pitch.
Prior to joining Everton, the former Ajax midfielder had only managed four Premier League starts for the Old Trafford outfit in the 18 months since arriving.
And Hutton has told BBC Radio 5 Live that he’s genuinely ‘baffled’ how he didn’t play more regularly.
He said; “I do not understand why Donny van de Beek didn’t play at Man Utd. He has been everywhere today. It genuinely baffles me.”
It’s worth pointing out that this was only Van de Beek’s first Premier League start since joining Everton.
In other words, it’s probably a little premature to criticise Manchester United for not utilising him a lot more.
However, there’s no denying that Van de Beek certainly did look a far happier player today than he has done at the Theatre of Dreams for months.
You always got the impression that confidence – or a lack of – might’ve been his major problem at the Red Devils but, if Frank Lampard can reinvigorate his self-belief, he could be immense for the Merseysiders.
