Rob Green has claimed that Aaron Ramsdale has been a ‘revelation’ at Arsenal.

The BBC pundit added that Ramsdale is the ‘first real England goalkeeper’ that can challenge Jordan Pickford in the department of having that ‘quick release’ and starting off attacks in a flash.

When Arsenal opted to pay relegated Sheffield United big money for Ramsdale, there were many, including Gooners, who questioned that call.

But Mikel Arteta, his coaching staff and the scouts at the club saw something in the 23-year-old that others didn’t.

Fast forward to today, Ramsdale is heading towards the Champions League and pushing Pickford for England’s number one spot.

Green, who has been England’s number one during his playing days, shared his thoughts on Ramsdale competing with Pickford and how he has seemingly proved him wrong, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

“I think if there was a tournament tomorrow, then there would be a question to be raised,” said Green.

“I think, in six months’ time, if Aaron Ramsdale keeps doing what he’s doing, then it might be a small question.

“He’s got the confidence. He is also the first real England goalkeeper of option, under Gareth Southgate, to say ‘right, that quick release and that potential to break forward fast is someone who can rival Jordan Pickford for it’. We saw it in parts at Sheffield United.

“But, he has come on leaps and bounds since he has been Arsenal. The confidence to play out from the back and really ping balls. To drill different types of balls into players that set up attacks for Arsenal. He has been a revelation. I didn’t see it in him, I don’t think many people did, but Arsenal did.”

Given that England are playing/have played two friendlies over this international break – Switzerland and the Ivory Coast.

There would have been a huge chance for Ramsdale to earn a start for his country and transform his club form onto the international stage.

An injury before Arsenal’s win at Aston Villa didn’t help matters, as he will now have to wait until June to showcase his worth.

Whilst Ramsdale is thriving in north London and pushing Pickford hard on the international stage, given that the Everton man has never let his country down, more than likely, he is keeping those main gloves.
