Even when Dele Alli isn’t playing, the Tottenham Hotspur loanee still manages to attract criticism.
The 25-year-old midfielder left Tottenham to join Everton on on transfer deadline day earlier this week.
Everton kicked off the Frank Lampard era with a 4-1 FA Cup victory over Brentford at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Toffees unveiled the Spurs player and Donny van de Beek at their stadium prior to kickoff.
And it’s safe to say that Glenn Hoddle didn’t like the England international’s preferred attire.
Alli donned a pair of baggy denim jeans and a grey beanie hat.
Here’s what the Tottenham legend said of the former MK Dons starlet before the game.
He told BT Sport: “I thought he’d just got dragged off the street to be honest. If I’m an Everton fan, you’re going to a new club. Put a tracksuit on at least or something. I didn’t like the way he walked out on the pitch with what he was wearing.”
Ridiculous
This is the footage Hoddle was reacting:
And honestly, criticising Alli here is frankly ridiculous.
His clothing is of zero consequence and so long as he performs on the field at Everton, nobody’s going to care about his fashion choices.
In fact, even if he flops at Goodison Park, the Tottenham man’s wardrobe still won’t be a contributing factor.
Hoddle would do well to only judge Alli for what he does or doesn’t do on the field for the next five months.
