‘I didn’t enjoy watching’: Sky pundit makes definitive Liverpool claim

Gary Neville said on The Gary Neville podcast that he is convinced that Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season.

The former Manchester United star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, made the comments following Liverpool’s 7-0 hammering of Crystal Palace in the league at the weekend.

Neville said that he was impressed by the way Jurgen Klopp’s side dismantled the Eagles, but he did admit that he did not enjoy Liverpool play (because of the rivalry between the Reds and United?).

Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment with 31 points from 14 matches, four points clear of second-placed Leicester City.

Neville said about Liverpool on The Gary Neville podcast: “I think the first half an hour of the game was the best half an hour for Liverpool because that’s where I think Crystal Palace were playing well. And yet, Liverpool just cut through them a couple of times and did what teams that win championships do.

“They hang on in there in moments in the game where it’s not good for them. But then they go and turn it up a notch and go and deliver and score. And they did that in the game. It was a painful one, one that I didn’t enjoy watching towards the end because you’re looking at a team, and you’re looking for characteristics of a title-winning team.

“I am convinced that they’re going to win the league. You look at what they’ve got, what they’re doing, the way that they’re playing, there’s no let up. And I think I’ll be very surprised if any team got near to them.”

Not getting carried away

Liverpool are doing well despite the long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

However, the defending English champions cannot get carried away, as it is still only December and they are just points clear at the top of the table.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur all will fancy their chances of winning the Premier League this season, while Leicester are emerging as challengers for the title.
