Garth Crooks has suggested on BBC Sport that he was wrong about West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma.

The former Tottenham Hotspur forward has said that he was impressed by Zouma’s performance for West Ham against Everton.

The Hammers won the Premier League game 1-0 at Goodison Park.

The BBC Sport pundit has included Angelo Ogbonna in his Premier League Team of the Week.

However, Crooks has praised Zouma for his display and has admitted that he was wrong about the 26-year-old.

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “This was an impressive performance by any standard away from home by West Ham. The Hammers seem to have found an extra layer of confidence since last season.

“What was also impressive about this victory was their defensive unit, especially the partnership between Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma. They looked impenetrable at times against Everton.

“To be perfectly honest I didn’t think Zouma would work out quite as well as he has, bearing in mind I gave him a massive build up after his debut for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“However it is Ogbonna who has grown into a top-class Premier League defender and Zouma would do well to stick closely to him.”

Kurt Zouma is doing well for West Ham

We find it a bit strange why Crooks would think that the signing of Zouma would not work out at West Ham.

After all, the 26-year-old did well for Chelsea.

The France international centre-back made 22 starts in the Premier League and five starts in the Champions League for the Blues last season.

Zouma has played four times in the Premier League and once in the Europa League for the Hammers so far this campaign.

In our view, Zouma is a very good signing for West Ham.

The Hammers paid £29.8 million for the Frenchman, according to Sky Sports.

And we think that it is money well spent.
