Clinton Morrison has told Soccer Saturday (05/12/20 at 1:55 pm) that Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier have made him ‘eat my words’.

The former Crystal Palace hitman did admit that he did ‘question’ Tottenham’s defence this season, but under Jose Mourinho’s stewardship, they are proving him wrong.

It’s always a risk questioning a man of Mourinho’s calibre and what his teams can bring to the table given what the trophy-laden coach can provide.

Until recently, Tottenham have been sitting at the top of the Premier League table and have improved from a defensive standpoint, which has surprised Morrison.

“Alderweireld and Dier, I questioned Tottenham’s defence, I did question it,” said Morrison. “I looked at the defence and said ‘is the defence good enough?’

“I have to eat my words, at the moment because Alderweireld and Eric Dier have been really good. Reguilon has been a hell of a signing at left-back. Matt Doherty cannot even get in, at the moment.

“I looked at Serge Aurier, but he’s been really good. Against Chelsea, he was good. Man City really good. He has been defending well.”

After keeping clean sheets against the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, another test now awaits Mourinho’s men and it comes in the form of Arsenal.

Whilst Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t been blowing teams away this season, it’s a completely different kettle of fish when it comes to the North London derby.

That’s the test that awaits Spurs today and if they can add another clean sheet to their basket then the confidence of them winning the title this season will only grow.
