Steve Bruce told Sky Sports that he asked Tottenham striker Harry Kane whether he ‘fancied’ wearing Newcastle’s famous number nine shirt.
Rumours have been circulating once again about Kane’s future at Tottenham, with Sky Sports repeating claims that he wants to leave this summer.
One thing is for sure, Kane is set to break many individual records from being England’s highest goalscorer to surpassing Alan Shearer as the Premier League’s all-time goal-getter.
And given that Kane is now seemingly ‘available’, according to Bruce, he shared what he asked the Englishman when Tottenham visited St James Park earlier this year.
“Well, Harry Kane became available, it seems as though he has become available,” said Bruce. “That wouldn’t be a bad start.
“I did ask Harry when he came up here that if he fancied the number nine jersey. The number nine jersey is always a big moment for everybody.”

Shearer found himself in the same shoes as Kane, but the difference is that by the time he wore the colours of his boyhood club, he already had a Premier League medal around his neck.
So, it was easier for him to remain at Newcastle and try to win a trophy with them, and whilst he failed to achieve that, he can still match his Premier League’s goal record with a trophy.
The same cannot be said for Kane as of yet and Spurs fans will be fretting about possibly losing their star man come the summer.
