‘I could well imagine Liverpool’: Edwards tipped to make absolute blockbuster signing in 2022

Liverpool have been tipped to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund next summer.

The towering Norway international is already looking like he is going to record another monstrous season at Signal Iduna Park.

Haaland, who was tentatively linked with a move to Liverpool earlier in the year, has netted 62 goals in 61 games for the German giants since joining them 18 months ago.

So far this season, the 21-year-old marksman has scored five goals in only three outings.

Long term, his future lies away from Dortmund and surely one of Europe’s more elite clubs will make a move.

And Michael Rummenigge, a Dortmund legend, has told Sport1 that he can easily see the big hitman signing for the Anfield club next year, labelling him an absolute ‘goal machine’.

He said: “We’ll have to wait and see where he goes after this season. Real and Barca have financial problems so I could imagine him moving to England. His father used to play there too.

“I could well imagine Liverpool for Haaland. Haaland is an exceptional phenomenon. There is a player like that every 30 or 40 years. He is an absolute goal machine, his opponents only fly away to the right and left when he starts running. I’ve never seen anything like him at that age.”

Historic bargain

If Liverpool are interested when a move away from the Bundesliga side looks on the cards, they may have to break their transfer record.

A £75 million deal to sign Virgil van Dijk remains the biggest piece of business that the Reds have ever done in their history.

And a report from Sport1 in Germany reported recently that Haaland’s release clause – which can only be activated next summer – could rise to around £76 million.

Haaland will only be 22 by then and for that money, any club who gets him is potentially getting the best bargain in the history of football.

The former Red Bull Salzburg talisman is simply a frightening talent and there’s no telling what he could be worth by the time he reaches the prime of his career.
