A claim has been made that if Mauricio Pochettino had returned to Tottenham Hotspur as their manager, Hugo Lloris would have likely stayed at the club.
The Evening Standard had reported that as an injury to the £12 million (Daily Mail) man has ruled him out for the season, he may also have played his last game for Spurs in the 6-1 mauling to Newcastle United.
While this report emerged just six days ago, it seems like a return for former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino would have likely assured that Hugo Lloris would have stayed put.

The Frenchman has had a nightmare of a campaign, especially since his return from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Spurs skipper has made a number of high-profile errors and due to his limitations on the ball, many have urged the club to part ways with their legendary goalkeeper.
While it seems as if Tottenham could end up selling Hugo Lloris, whose contract expires in 2024, a return for Chelsea-bound manager Mauricio Pochettino would have meant he stayed.
“Had Poch come back to the club, with that hypothetical, I could see it. I’d be surprised, there’s the payday element and a competitive element as well. All coaches seem to love him, but in terms of mutual love it was all about Poch”, journalist Dan Kilpatrick said on The Tottenham Way Podcast.
HITC View: That’s one positive about Pochettino moving elsewhere
While there is no denying that Hugo Lloris is a Tottenham icon, if Mauricio Pochettino did not demand his sale upon his return as manager, that would have been a huge red flag to say the least.
Lloris’ profile is outdated in this day and age, considering how poor he is on the ball and the fact that his sweeping skills also need work.
A traditionally excellent shotstopper, the World Cup winner has regressed in this area as well and that too, for a number of years.
It’s high-time that Daniel Levy kickstarts the club’s recruitment process towards bringing in an upgrade in the No.1 position come the summer.
