‘I could not believe’: 24-year-old shares what £66m Liverpool player did yesterday

If there was one positive for Liverpool on Saturday, it was goalkeeper Alisson.

The Brazil international, a £66 million signing in 2018 [BBC Sport], had an excellent performance against Nottingham Forest yesterday afternoon.

Liverpool slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat by Steve Cooper’s outfit but if not for Alisson, the scoreline would’ve been worse.

Alisson pulled off one stunning save in particular to keep out Ryan Yates in the second half.

And the Forest midfielder has admitted that the ‘could not believe’ that the Liverpool stopper kept him out.

He told BBC Sport, [22/10, 15:09]: “I thought I’d scored, could not believe Alisson saved that. The strikers said he comes out quick so wait an extra second and lift it. I did that and he still saved it!”

Forest are a good team.

But if your goalkeeper is the best player in a defeat by a newly-promoted outfit then that right there ought to tell Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp that something is very, very wrong – and it is.

It’s one step forward and two back for a Reds side that simply cannot carry any momentum this season.

Injuries haven’t helped, and Thiago Alcantara missed out yesterday with an infection of some description.

But we’re talking about the same team who nearly won four competitions last season, the quadruple.

In other words, Liverpool still could and absolutely should’ve beat Forest yesterday, but it wasn’t to be and the fact that Alisson had to save his teammates on a number of occasions is a concern.
