Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was mentioned by Jermaine Jenas earlier today as he and Micah Richards analysed England‘s 3-0 World Cup win over Wales.

The pair were speaking at half-time of Australia’s 1-0 win over Denmark earlier today, where Jenas made a remark about the 32-year-old’s display against Wales.

What’s the story?

Well, the 39-year-old told Richards that Henderson’s bellowing voice was “all I could hear” during England’s final game in Group B.

Jenas said: “All I could hear was Henderson shouting, ordering people around. He’s a real leader.”

Now, that won’t surprise Liverpool fans one bit.

The England international is often one of the most vocal players on the pitch, with Liverpool even posting a video during the lockdown games in which he could be heard loud and clear.

Henderson is constantly giving his teammates words of advice while on the pitch, as well as praising them for vital moments such as a significant tackle or block.

You can hear an example of what the Liverpool No.14 is like on the pitch below.

Henderson may not be everybody’s cup of tea, although you simply cannot deny that he is a genuine leader.

So far this season, he has made 16 appearances in all competitions, previously captaining the Reds to a Premier League title and Champions League glory, as well as the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool will find it hard to replace Henderson

Of course, Liverpool will be able to find another midfielder with the technical ability and athleticism of Henderson when he eventually hangs up his boots, but they will struggle to find another character like him.

The Sunderland-born stalwart leads by example and sets the tone at Anfield, where he is the human embodiment of professionalism.

There will undoubtedly be a huge void in the dressing room when Henderson eventually leaves, and it is down to Jürgen Klopp to ensure he replaces his skipper with someone just as commanding, if that’s possible.
