Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing some comments Antonio Conte made after the Tottenham vs Liverpool game.

The Italian didn’t hold back after the match when giving his opinions on the recent trend of fans booing this Tottenham team after a string of poor first-half performances, and the manager made it clear that he wanted the fans to change and be more supportive.

“There is a vision. The club knows the best way to improve but we need to find enthusiasm and patience. It is my fuel. I need to have this,” Conte said in his press conference.

Gold thought these comments were rather interesting, so he checked with a few people at the club what was meant by this.

Interestingly, club sources agreed that Conte was basically giving an ultimatum, saying that he’d be happy to stay at Spurs if the fans back him and his team going forward.

Fan voices heard

Gold shared what he’d been told about Conte’s comments.

“I also listened to his interview after the game, and there are a couple of thinly-veiled ultimatums, threats and hints saying ‘if you don’t want to get behind me, maybe I won’t stick around.’ I felt that with what he was saying. The half-time boos have become familiar, if Spurs aren’t winning at the break they’re coming,” Gold said.

Gold then read out Conte’s comments from the SpursPlay interview.

“The key line is ‘if we have the time and the patience and we are all enthusiastic it will be good to continue and do it in the future.’ I’ve checked with a few people at the club, just to check I was reading this right, and they agreed. He is suggesting that if the fans back him and his team and give him reason to stick around, he will do so. But if they show him that they don’t want what’s happening he may head off into the sunset.”

Fans make a difference

Fans are more than entitled to make their voices heard, and in this instance, it sounds like they’re making a difference.

Whether or not hounding Conte out of Spurs is a good thing or not will be a huge cause for debate, but it sounds like if Tottenham fans aren’t happy, vocalising their feelings will bring about change in the dugout.

Conte is an incredibly successful manager, but things aren’t going well right now, and if that doesn’t improve, fans will continue to boo.
