Queens Park Rangers have missed out on the signing of free agent Stefan Schwab with the former Rapid Vienna captain sealing a move to Greek giants PAOK instead, as reported via the club’s official website.
In the space of just three days, QPR have seen two highly-rated midfielders slip through their grasp.
Patrick Erras joined Werder Bremen after holding talks over a move to Loftus Road, according to The Mail.
And Schwab is now on his way to Greece, despite interest from not just QPR but Bristol City and Blackburn Rovers too (Mail).
“The club feels big,” says the 29-year-old, who had spent his entire career in his native Austria until now. “I want to adapt quickly and I am open to new things.
“The whole city is behind the club, the fans should be really enthusiastic. I can’t wait to play here for this big club.”
PAOK won the Super League title in 2019 and finished runners-up behind Olympiakos this season, meaning they will take part in the Champions League qualification phase.
Schwab, a one-time Austrian international, should add plenty of thrust and quality in the final third, having produced nine goals and ten assists from central midfield during his final season at Rapid Vienna.
QPR, however, will need to look elsewhere as they scour the market for players capable of stepping into what is likely to be an Eberechi Eze-shaped hole at the heart of Mark Warburton’s team.
