Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given his take on Patrick Bamford’s disallowed goal for Leeds United at the weekend, as quoted on the club’s official website.
In the first half of the Premier League game between Crystal Palace and Leeds at at Selhurst Park in London on Saturday afternoon, Bamford had a goal controversially ruled out because of offside.
Mateusz Klich played the striker through, but VAR decided that Bamford’s arm was in an offside position.
The former Chelsea and Nottingham Forest striker was actually pointing where Klich should play the pass.
Klopp has given his take on the disallowed goal, and his reaction is quite amusing.
The German told Liverpool’s official website while discussing Joe Gomez’s penalty incident against Manchester City: “I can’t say anything about this specific handball situation but I saw yesterday the [Patrick] Bamford armpit and it reminded me a lot of the Bobby Firmino armpit at Aston Villa [last season].
“I can’t wait for the first time a player scores a goal with the armpit – I don’t know how that works but I can’t wait.”
Controversial decisions
Just like Gomez’s handball decision where he simply could not get his arm away from Kevin De Bruyne’s delivery in time, the offside ruling on Bamford’s goal was controversial.
Under the current rules and VAR system, such controversial decisions are not going to go away anytime soon, and fans will have to live with them for the time being.
While Liverpool drew with City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday, Leeds went down 4-1 to Palace in London on Saturday.
