It seems as though Wesley could be heading ever closer to making a long-awaited return for Aston Villa after posting on Instagram that he’s looking forward to taking to the field once more.
Jack Grealish responded to Wesley’s Instagram post by stating: “I can’t wait bro’.”
Remarkably, strikers have come and gone since Wesley’s season was ended at Burnley in early January.
Mbwana Samatta was signed as his replacement weeks later and, even though he scored on his Premier League debut and in the League Cup final, he struggled for form.
He was sold by the club this summer and replaced by the now thriving Ollie Watkins, who struck a hat-trick against champions Liverpool last time out.
It’s not yet known when Villa fans will see Wesley back in action and it has to be remembered he will still need a lot of time to get back to sharpness given the amount of time he’s spent on the sidelines.
Once he does return, he will provide Dean Smith with some attacking depth and elevate an Aston Villa side on the up this season.
During the previous campaign, Wesley had to settle into a side that was inexperienced and had just been promoted, so there were moments of struggle.
But it will be a different environment this time around and Villa fans will hope it helps to progress his game.
