Ian Wright has said on Match of the Day on BBC One (11:15pm, December 26, 2021) that Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette should have scored a goal from open play against Norwich City on Boxing Day.
Arsenal got the better of Norwich 5-0 away from home at Carrow Road in the Premier League on Sunday.
Lacazette scored in the 84th minute from the penalty spot.
The France international striker also provided an assist.
While Arsenal legend Wright has said on MOTD that Lacazette played well for the Gunners, he was left disappointed by the Frenchman not scoring from open play.
During the first half, Arsenal created a wonderful move from the back and the ball fell to Gabriel Martinelli on the left.
Lacazette found himself in space, but the Frenchman did not run towards goal and waited for a pass to his feet.

Had the striker continued his run, then he would have found himself with a simple tap-in from just yards out.
Ian Wright on Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette
Wright said on Match of the Day on BBC One (11:15pm, December 26, 2021): “Lacazette, I can’t understand why he stopped there with his arms in the air. Get yourself in the box. He doesn’t do it, and that’s it, a tap-in. He would have got a goal. I know he played very, very well today.”
Encouraging performance
In our opinion, Lacazette did well for Arsenal against Norwich.
Yes, it was a bad decision from the Frenchman not to continue his run, but all players make such decisions in all games.
The Frenchman is now a regular in the Arsenal starting lineup, and he is a big reason why the Gunners are flourishing.
For Mikel Arteta’s side to finish in the Premier League top four this season, Lacazette will have to play a big role.
