Speaking on the Ringer FC Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure from Arsenal.
Wright has championed Aubameyang pretty much ever since he arrived at Arsenal, so as you can imagine, the pundit wasn’t best pleased to see the striker headed out of the door at the Emirates.
Wright simply can’t understand why a solution couldn’t be reached between Mikel Arteta and the striker, while he was also baffled about this decision coming so soon after the attacker signed his new contract.
What’s Wright said about Aubameyang?
The Arsenal legend spoke about Aubameyang’s departure.
“Even I don’t know what’s gone on and I’m in touch with the guy, we’re tight. The way everything has gone, deep down I can’t understand why something couldn’t happen, simply because he’s only just signed. So if everything was going on before, there would have been a lead up of misdemeanours for the manager to maybe say let’s not sign him, and it seems like if you knew there were things that were happening that you didn’t like, then why did we sign and put so much money into him and a year later he’s gone?” Wright asked.
Wright touched on his personal feelings towards Aubameyang’s departure later in the podcast.
“I’m very sad on a personal level, because I think he’s made for us. If you have Auba you can structure everything around him to do what he does. I watched his goals for Dortmund not long ago and it was all geared for him. I’m devastated that we couldn’t do that for him, but as much as I love him, you have to back the manager now.”

Sad situation
Regardless of what happened between Aubameyang and Arteta, it has to be said that this is a sad situation.
Aubameyang was on track to become a true Arsenal legend, and while his form had dipped, he was still a fan favourite.
However, behind the scenes issues have led to Aubameyang leaving under quite a dark cloud rather, which is a real shame as he’s been the shining beacon of hope at Arsenal over the past five years or so.
