Michael Owen told Premier League Productions (14/08/21 at 7:45 pm) that he can’t think of one attribute Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk doesn’t have in his locker.

The former striker shared that Van Dijk, who returned to Liverpool action on Saturday during their 3-0 win at Norwich, has probably been ‘one of the greatest centre-halves that has ever lived’.

During Van Dijk’s time on Merseyside, he has helped the club lift their sixth European crown and win their first English title in three decades.

And after his effortless performance on Saturday, Owen just couldn’t find a weakness in the 30-year-old’s game.

“When I look at centre-halves I look at his attributes and think ‘what hasn’t he got?'” asked Owen. “I can’t think of one thing.

“We are watching, I know he has been out for a year and it’s probably stupid to say it now. But we have watched over the last few years one of the greatest centre-halves that have ever lived.

“What can’t he do? He’s as quick as anything. He is a leader. He talks to everyone. He reads the game well. He’s brave. Scores goals. He can pass, long and short. What can’t this fella do?”

Liverpool haven’t refreshed their squad like some of their so-called title contenders have this summer, but there is still a group of players at Anfield that are capable of going for the title again.

Whilst the likes of Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea can probably afford to deal with injuries, the same can’t be said for Jurgen Klopp.

If Klopp can keep his strongest XI intact then he will be backing himself to add a second Premier League title under his reign at Liverpool.
