Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, David Seaman has shared what he’s heard about Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tottenham Hotspur pay-off.

The former Wolves boss was sacked by Tottenham this week, and with over a year and a half remaining on his contract, it’s fair to assume that he’s due a hefty compensation package.

However, Seaman is led to believe that Nuno’s pay-off was smaller than it should have been due to the fact Spurs had dropped out of the top six.

What’s been said?

Seaman and his co-hosts were discussing Nuno’s compensation after leaving north London.

“With the payoff for the two year contract, I reckon he earned more at Spurs than he did for four years at Wolves. I reckon I might not be far off,” Seaman’s co-host said.

“I also heard a little rumour that because Tottenham have dropped out of the top six there was less to pay as well. I can’t say where my source is from, but I heard that and I was like oof,” Seaman said.

Explains the timing

If Seaman is right about this, then that explains the timing of Nuno’s sacking.

Spurs have been terrible lately, but somehow, they’d managed to hold onto a spot in the top six until their loss to Manchester United.

Daniel Levy is a very savvy owner and he’ll have known that he could have saved a bit of cash by waiting another week before getting rid of Nuno.

We still don’t know how much Spurs had to pay to sack Nuno, but it seems as though they may have saved a fair amount by delaying his departure by a week or two.
