Reported Newcastle United and Manchester United target Amadou Haidara has expressed his desire to stay with RB Leipzig following Premier League interest in January.

Speaking to BILD, the Bundesliga midfielder revealed that he is happy in east Germany and is keen to remain with the club until the end of his current contract, which expires in 2025.

Haidara was the subject of interest from both Newcastle and United, with interim Red Devils manager Ralf Rangnick a big fan of the midfielder and the coach who brought the Mali international to Germany in the first place.

Indeed, at one point it looked like Haidara was going to take his talents to England with either Newcastle or United. However, the midfielder made the decision to remain in Germany in what is a blow for the two English sides.

With Leipzig fighting for a UEFA Champions League spot, Haidara’s presence will be key for the Saxony club in their efforts to clinch top-four. And speaking to the press, the 24-year-old sounded happy to be back in Germany.

Haidara said about January rumours to Newcastle and United: “I can’t say much about that. I’m glad to be back. You hear rumours, that’s how it is when the transfer market is shut. But I still have a contract until 2025 and I want to stay here. I see no reason for changing when I am settled in Germany.”

Newcastle and United should reignite Haidara interest in the summer

A full international with Mali and a star in the Bundesliga, a move from Leipzig is slowly becoming a better of ‘when’ and not ‘if’ for Haidara, and for Newcastle and United, the two clubs should reignite their interest for the midfielder in the summer.

Indeed, the 24-year-old has impressed throughout this campaign in what has so far been a season to forget for Leipzig. And for Newcastle and United, they both could make a move for the Haidara in the post-season, where the Bundesliga side could be more open to selling.
