Jack Wilshere has revealed on TalkSPORT that he can see Mikel Arteta building a legacy at Arsenal.
Sticking around
Wilshere, who is currently training at London Colney, was asked to pick who out of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard he would see become Arsenal manager.
However, with Wilshere’s loyalty firmly placed with Arteta, he tried to avoid answering the question for as long as possible.
Wilshere was asked numerous times to pick between Lampard or Gerrard, but he felt the question was pointless as he could only see Arteta being at the club for the next decade.
He said: “None of them because Mikel is going to be there for the next 10 years.
“I can’t [answer that]. I don’t know. I can’t! I wouldn’t have any of them, it’s Mikel – they’re the same age.”
Eventually, after being pressed for an answer for about two minutes, Wilshere did respond and said: “Alright… Gerrard.”

Arteta gaining respect
Wilshere’s reluctance to actually provide an answer to the debate really does show the respect he has for Arteta.
If the Spaniard is to spend the next 10 years at Arsenal it would be some turnaround.
Arteta, who is on a £96,000-a-week contract (Goal), went into this season under big pressure and the scrutiny only ramped up further after their poor start.
However, the Gunners have started to show signs that Arteta’s vision is starting to have an impact.
Arsenal have gone their last 10 games unbeaten and every player in the current squad seems to be buying into Arteta’s high pressing philosophy.
All of a sudden Arsenal look like contenders for the top four, and with many of their players so young, the future could be very bright at the Emirates Stadium under their current manager.
