Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted on Twitter to Serge Aurier mutually agreeing to terminate his contract on Tuesday evening.

Minutes before the transfer window could slam shut, Tottenham’s official Twitter account shared the news that they have parted ways with Aurier.

The right-back’s current deal was due to expire at the end of the season, but they have called an early halt to that one.

Aurier’s arrived in North London four years ago when Spurs paid Paris Saint-Germain £23 million for his services (BBC Sport).

Fast forward to today and he has left for nothing, which perhaps goes to show the indifferent and difficult time he had at the club.

But Spurs fans have praised Aurier for his actions and thanked him for being a great servant for the club.

This news would have, no doubt, have come as a surprise, but he had to leave, one way or another.

Japhet Tanganga had pushed ahead of the Frenchman in the right-back pecking order, with Matt Doherty behind the thriving youngster.

Then add to that list Emerson Royal, who signed for the club on deadline day, from Barcelona, for £25 million, according to Sky Sports.

Even with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side competing in Europe this season, there was no way he was going to earn minutes.

All in all, the correct call was made, albeit it was a bit of a surprise and it came out of the blue.

Here is a selection of Spurs fans reacting to the Aurier news breaking late last night:
