Kevin Campbell has stated that he ‘can’t believe’ the claims that Ben White ‘can’t defend’ for Arsenal, as he told the Highbury Squad.
The Arsenal legend made it clear that what he is hearing about the club’s summer signing is pure ‘nonsense’.
When White first moved to the Emirates Stadium, there were eyebrows raised at the £50 million transfer fee the club put on the table for his talents.
Only two seasons ago, White was helping Leeds earn promotion to the Premier League and he had no experience in England’s top-flight.
But those in the Arsenal boardroom clearly saw something in the player after one season with Brighton.
Nonetheless, when Campbell was told that White ‘can’t defend’, he wasn’t having any of it.
“Can’t defend?” asked a puzzled Campbell. “What are they talking about, can’t defend?
“So, if he can’t defend, then Manchester City score in the first half. We don’t stop them from not having shots in the first half, if he can’t defend.
“I can’t believe some of this nonsense. I can’t believe it.”

One thing that you can’t doubt about White’s game is his ability to bring the ball out from the back.
The England international has showcased that throughout his early career, from when he was at Elland Road to Wembley with the Three Lions.
But whilst some will doubt White’s defending, he will point towards the nine clean sheets he has helped Arsenal keep during his 18 Premier League matches.
All of which has also helped Mikel Arteta’s side go from the bottom of the table after three matches to now sitting in the Champions League spots.
