Well, Tottenham Hotspur supporters might be worried by what they saw from John McGinn on Wednesday night.

McGinn, who is linked with a transfer to Tottenham, played as Scotland lost 3-1 to Ukraine, who dashed the Scots’ hopes of qualifying for a first World Cup since 1998.

The Aston Villa midfielder could – and should – have made it more of a game for the hosts at Hampden Park.

In the second half, the Spurs-linked dynamo missed an absolute sitter, heading wide of the post from six yards out when all he needed to do was get it on the target.

Here’s what former Tottenham and Scotland right-back Alan Hutton said about the miss, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live.

He said: “I can’t believe that. McGinn has the freedom of the goal but he’s tried to be too clever and put it in the corner. We’ve still got time but that would’ve put a spanner in the works.”

According to The Telegraph, the former Hibernian midfielder is on Antonio Conte’s radar this summer.

In January, Aston Villa held a £40 million valuation [Football Scotland] of McGinn but honestly, they might struggle to get that fee off the North Londoners – or anyone who comes knocking, frankly.

Not that he isn’t an excellent player, irrespective of his miss last night, but Spurs are going to be back in the Champions League next season.

Conte is going to need personnel who can influence massive games at massive moments and although nobody is saying McGinn can’t do that, the jury is out over whether he or not he can.
