Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Cheick Doucoure this summer.
It isn’t the Doucoure that the Gunners’ support may want, with Abdoulaye, of Everton, being a bonafide Premier League powerhouse.
This one, however, doesn’t seem to have as much clout.
Doucoure is only 21 and plays for Ligue 1 side Lens in France.
Arsenal might need additional steel in midfield between now and the end of the summer transfer window, with Mohamed Elneny potentially leaving and Thomas Partey being injured again.
The Ghanaian is out with ankle ligament damage right now and it would take a brave person to bet that it’s Partey’s last injury of what could be another stop-start season for the former Atletico Madrid star.
A move for another midfielder makes absolute sense for Arsenal and here’s how some fans of the Emirates Stadium club reacted to the possibility of bringing in the Malian player.
Lokonga
It has to be remembered that the North Londoners have already signed Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht.
And at 21, Lokonga is the same age and similar type of midfielder as Doucoure.
Therefore, it wouldn’t surprise many to learn that the links to the latter – who is also linked with a move to Aston Villa – may turn out to be not very substantial.
Arsenal, who have also signed Nuno Tavares and Ben White in a £50 million deal, have had a mixed window so far, it has to be said.
There’s potential for it to get a lot better over the coming weeks but, by the same token, also a lot worse.
