Roy Keane has defended Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane before last night’s England game against Hungary, on ITV Sport.
Kane defended
The questioning directly before the kick off centred around whether there should be concerns around the Tottenham striker, who has yet to score in the Premier League.
ITV pundits Eni Aluko and Ian Wright both commented on Kane’s poor form so far this season.
Kane had a disjointed pre-season, where speculation around his future persistently lingered.
He ultimately ended up staying with Spurs, but is yet to hit top gear this term.
However, Keane was shocked to hear so many concerns about Kane before kick-off last night.
“He’s scored in 15 qualifiers in a row, he’s very comfortable here, we all know what’s going on with Tottenham. He hasn’t scored in the league. How do you read his body language,” ITV presenter Mark Pougatch asked.
And Keane responded: “For England it’s not a problem. He’s had his problems at club level and the team aren’t great recently, Tottenham. But I can’t believe we’re going to be standing here doubting Harry Kane, are we?”
“I don’t think we’re doubting him…”
“I think he’ll be fine. He’ll be glad to come away with England. Every time you come away for international football, not everyone is going to have a spring in their step. Players are going to have issues at club level, that goes on for every national team.
“We just know Kane, if he gets chances he’ll score goals.”

Another poor showing
Ultimately Kane’s performance on the night didn’t manage to end any questions over his form.
The Tottenham striker looked out of sorts as England could only muster up a 1-1 draw with Hungary.
Gareth Southgate actually took Kane off, with England still searching for a winner, which rather highlighted how poor his display was.
Kane’s attention will now return to Tottenham matters, with Nuno’s side facing a game against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park at the weekend.
