Former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez could reportedly become Everton’s next manager.

According to The Echo, nobody at Goodison Park has been in contact with the one-time Reds coach about replacing Carlo Ancelotti.

But the report adds that Everton’s decision makers have indeed discussed the possibility of bringing him back to the Premier League.

The Spaniard has previously won a Champions League title with Liverpool during a six-year stay on the red half of the Merseyside divide.

And Richard Keys has claimed on Twitter that he does not believe Everton fans would accept the 61-year-old, arguing that there’s five other names – including Mark Hughes – who the Toffees should pursue instead.

Everton fans want success more than anything and although Benitez would leave a bitter taste in the mouths of some, many more supporters would welcome him.

Sure, it would be better if he didn’t have any connections to Anfield, but he hasn’t been their manager for over a decade.

It’s time to move on and the big wigs at Everton feel that he’s the best man to continue taking the club forward, after Ancelotti’s shock return to Real Madrid, then they certainly ought to be trusted.
