‘I can’t believe’: Ian Wright claims Tottenham player’s decision in 2018 is hurting him now

Ian Wright told ITV Sport (07/08/21 at 4:40 pm) that he ‘can’t believe’ that Harry Kane signed a Tottenham contract without putting a clause in his contract amid rumours he wants a move to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola has made it clear that he wants to sign Kane from Tottenham this summer, after paying £100 million for Jack Grealish.

Whilst Grealish turned up for training at Aston Villa, it was a different story for Kane, who had to come out on Twitter on Friday and insist that he isn’t boycotting training and he was going to return ‘as planned’ on Saturday (August 7).

Villa put a £100 million clause in Grealish’s contract, hence why signing the playmaker was that bit easier for Man City.

And Highbury legend Wright just can’t understand why Kane took the action to not go down the same path as Grealish.

“Something has got lost with the translation,” said Wright. “I thought with Harry Kane wanting to leave, you look at the way Jack has left Villa, it’s gone seamless.

“When Christian Purslow when he explained it. Everything that has happened with Jack Grealish with the clause he had in his contract, it has made it happen. This hasn’t happened for Tottenham or Kane because there’s no clause.

“Tottenham have every right to ask for what they want because we are talking about Harry Kane here.

“He signed in 2018 and I can’t believe that at stage, with the strength he was in, I can’t understand with Harry Kane and the level of player he goes into a contract with no clause in it.”

Kane has now returned to pre-season and he will be looking forward to meeting the new man in Tottenham’s dugout.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s life in North London will be a lot easier if he has Kane on board because they aren’t a team on the up, but one on the decline.

Summer signings are slowly being brought into the fold – Pierluigi Gollini, Bryan Gil and Cristian Romero.

Given Kane’s situation, it probably isn’t enough to keep him on board, but the quicker the transfer window slams shut, the better for the Spurs supporters and those in the boardroom.
