Alan Shearer has stated that he ‘can’t fit’ West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen into his Team of the Season because of Sadio Mane, as he told the Premier League’s official website.

It has been an outstanding campaign for West Ham’s 25-year-old, with big goals, important performances and now a call-up for England.

Bowen will be hoping to make his England debut next week and it’s much-deserved for the versatile attacker, after he scored 12 goals and supplied the same number of assists in the Premier League this season.

Even though Bowen is yet to make his England debut, at the rate he is going, he should be a starter for Gareth Southgate because not many English attackers have outperformed him.

But, Shearer, whilst he put Declan Rice in his Team of the Season, explained why he couldn’t fit Bowen into the XI.

“It’s been really tough because I wanted to put Jarrod Bowen in the team because of his goals and his assists,” said Shearer.

“He has to be in the England squad this summer. But I can’t even fit him in the front three of this team because the three players have just been absolutely superb.

“No surprise, I am going to pick Mo Salah. He has been superb. His goals have carried Liverpool, at times.

“Son Heung-Min has been superb for Tottenham. Goals, assists, his link-up play. Understanding with Harry Kane. So, Son has to be in my team.

“This is where I was going to put Bowen in. But I can’t because I am going to have to put Sadio Mane in the team. The year that he has had has been absolutely phenomenal.”

BOWEN’S ENGLAND CALL DESERVED

Bowen’s England call is deserved and one that has come just at the right time with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar around the corner.

If the former Hull City man can impress at St George’s Park during this coming week, and then start next season in a strong fashion, then there’s no reason why he should earn his ticket to Qatar.

There is serious depth in the attacking areas for Southgate to choose from, with James Maddison, who scored 12 goals and supplied eight assists for Leicester City, not even being selected.

Nonetheless, with Bowen’s form, it brings transfer speculation and West Ham fans will be hoping a certain Liverpool stay away from trying to lure him to Anfield, 90min have reported interest.
