Jose Mourinho has said that Tottenham Hotspur’s Erik Lamela cannot play against Maccabi Haifa on Thursday now, as per his comments to Football London.

Lamela helped Tottenham to victory over Chelsea last night, as he put in a big performance out of position.

Lamela was forced to play up-front for much of the contest yesterday, and the Argentine did a striker’s job, as he tucked home Tottenham’s equaliser late on.

Lamela’s strike proved crucial, as Spurs went on to win on penalties.

And the winger’s big effort for the side earned praise from Mourinho.

“Coco was amazing. He was amazing. I cannot play him on Thursday though. I know why you ask about Erik Lamela, but so many players did so well,” Mourinho said.

Lamela came out after the game and admitted that he was having a problem with his right-foot, so Tottenham will be extra cautious about picking him again.

If Lamela is to miss out on Thursday, it could provide the likes of Dele Alli or Ryan Sessegnon with a chance to return to the squad.
