Arsene Wenger told beIN SPORTS 11 (13/02/21 at 2:45 pm) that Liverpool duo Alisson Becker and Ozan Kabak weren’t ‘taking in information’ just before their mistake against Leicester on Saturday.
Heading into the final 15 minutes of the game, Liverpool would have been rather pleased that they were going to put a valuable three points on the board and secure a much-needed clean sheet.
But the Premier League champions capitulated towards the end, including Alisson making yet another mistake in what was a controversial encounter.
Former Arsenal boss Wenger felt that both Alisson and Kabak were at fault for the second goal they conceded, which saw the Liverpool keeper rush off his line and meet nothing but thin air.
“He never looked where his defender is,” said Wenger. “I cannot believe. For me, he still carries the last game in his mind.
“He only watches the ball. For a keeper, he must know where his defenders are – it’s a gift.
“But the defender makes exactly the same mistake. He must know as well where the keeper is. When you run back as a defender, you have to look because the keepers play very high.
“I think both are completely not taking in information before they play the ball.”
Kabak will feel he was back at Schalke because it was a Schalke-like collapse and defensive display towards the end from Liverpool.
It was a debut to forget for the January signing, but Klopp and his players have to look forward and forget about yesterday’s defeat because of what’s behind them in the table.
The Reds are now in a battle to finish in the top-four, with West Ham, Chelsea, Everton, Tottenham and Aston Villa all chasing them.
