Kevin Campbell has called on Arsenal chief Edu to make a move for Yves Bissouma in the January transfer window.
Granit Xhaka could still be sidelined for the Gunners by then after being ruled out for three months with injury a little earlier this week.
Bissouma to Arsenal is a transfer story that got a lot of traction for much of 2021 and it has been reported this past summer that the £30 million-rated Brighton midfielder wanted a move to the Emirates.
Interestingly, Mikel Arteta’s side could come up against the 24-year-old pitbull today ahead of their trip to the Amex.
And the former Gunners hitman claims that people at Albion are more than likely already sounding out replacements in the event that he leaves this winter.
He told Highbury Squad on YouTube: “Listen there’s a little someone who plays in midfield for the team we’re playing tomorrow. I wouldn’t mind getting him in January – I can tell you that much! They’re not going to keep him forever. They’ll be doing the work in the background to replace him, I can tell you that much.”
Why didn’t Arsenal sign Bissouma?
There’s a number of possible explanations.
With the player wanting to join, it would’ve been an open goal for Edu to complete this deal if he and Arteta wanted to get it done.
And we know that Arsenal did want a midfielder by virtue of the fact that they signed Albert Sambi Lokonga.
But they also signed Ben White in a £50 million deal and although he’s a defender, not a midfielder, he did play for the Seagulls and therefore perhaps they didn’t want to sour relations with Brighton by poaching their two best players.
Another possibility is quite simply, Edu didn’t fancy him and if that was the case then it’s difficult to see a January move happening, irrespective of what Xhaka’s fitness is like by then.
