Harry Kane had a rare off-night for Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Tottenham thumped bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United 4-0 in North London last night but the game belonged to hat-trick hero Gareth Bale.

The Blades are the worst team in the Premier League by a distance after only winning 17 points from 34 games this season.

But Kane, despite being the division’s top goalscorer with 21, wasn’t able to add to his tally.

The 27-year-old did have chances though, like the one he fluffed in the first half, before later firing into row-z from Sergio Reguilon’s cut-back.

And former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has told Optus Sport that Kane will have been disgusted in the dressing room after the game in spite of the fact that the Lilywhites – under Ryan Mason, the caretaker manager – romped to such a convincing victory.

He said: “I’ll tell you. I can tell you now. I can see him in the dressing room as we speak. Harry Kane has got his head in his hands, thinking ‘we’ve played the worst team in the league and I haven’t scored a goal’. He’ll be devastated that he hasn’t scored and added to his tally!”

Kane is absolutely a team player, but he’s also a striker and for strikers, goals are like oxygen.

And Sherwood is right in saying that he’ll have been very angry that he didn’t wind up getting on the scoresheet.

He is also only one goal ahead of Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot and Liverpool have played a game less.

Kane, being the competitive player that he is, will want that individual award just as much as Salah and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if Leeds United – Tottenham’s next opponents next Saturday – feel a backlash from the hitman at Elland Road.
