Former Scottish Premiership boss Brian Rice is not surprised to see Aberdeen wonderkid Calvin Ramsay linked with a move to Premier League giants Everton and West Ham United, as he told the Daily Record.
When you are talking about a young player with just a handful of senior games under his belt, that youthful exuberance often comes at the expense of end-product.
Not with Ramsay.
In 12 matches, the baby-faced right-back has already accumulated five assists, standing out a mile with his impressive delivery from out wide during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Motherwell.
According to The Sun, Everton scouted Ramsay at Fir Park.
West Ham, Southampton and Leicester City – who have already been tracking one highly-rated, Scotland-based full-back in Josh Doig – are interested too; something that comes as no surprise to a man who has watched Ramsay’s development closely.
Is Calvin Ramsay destined for the Premier League?
“He’s good on the ball with both feet. He has great energy, his deliveries are excellent and he has a real confidence despite being relatively young,” said ex-Hamilton Academical boss Rice.
“There are a lot of full-backs whose delivery isn’t great but last Saturday Ramsay’s crossing was exceptional. I can see why people are raving about him.

“There is no fear in the young lad Ramsay. He just wants to run at players and get at defences. The young boy looks to have a massive future in the game if he keeps progressing the way he has.
“There will be big clubs looking at him.”
Everton appear to be prioritising Ramsay after failing in their attempts to sign another up-and-coming right-back, Nathan Patterson, from Rangers.
According to Rice, there are plenty of similarities between Rice and Patterson, beyond the fact that both have admirers at Goodison Park (Scottish Sun).
“Calvin always wants to take the game to the opposition,” Rice added. “He reminds me so much of Patterson, even to his looks and his build. It really is incredible, certainly in my eyes.”
