Liverpool face Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday in a repeat of the 2018 final.

A number of players who started in 2018 are likely to be in the XI again this time around.

Indeed, the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold will all likely play their second European Cup final against Madrid, but one man who started in Kyiv who won’t be starting here is Dejan Lovren.

Indeed, the Croatian partnered van Dijk back in 2018, but he has since left the club to join Zenit St Petersburg.

However, despite no longer being a Liverpool player, the defender has sent the Reds a good luck message ahead of this crucial match.

Lovren clearly still harbours a lot of love for Liverpool, and in other circumstances, he’d be in the stadium tonight cheering the Reds on.

Indeed, this final was originally due to be played in St. Petersburg – Lovren’s current home, but due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, this match has been moved to Paris.

The centre-back evidently has plenty of regrets about the final four years ago, and to be honest, we can understand why.

Lovren was fantastic on that day, but two errors from Loris Karius cost Lovren the chance to win his first Champions League winners’ medal in Kyiv.

Of course, one year later he’d right that wrong against Tottenham, but now, his former teammates have a golden opportunity to bury the demons of 2018.

Liverpool will be out for revenge and Lovren will be backing them all the way.
